The founding National Secretary of the Alliance for Democracy, Udenta Udenta, has warned that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is a weak political structure incapable of sustaining Nigeria’s future.
Udenta issued the warning during an interview on ARISE News, where he accused the ruling party of weaponising state institutions to entrench its dominance.
“This is a structure of darkness. This is a structure that will collapse on its own,” Udenta declared.
He alleged that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has become “an extension of the APC’s machinery,” used to legitimise what he described as electoral fraud and violence. He further accused the judiciary of compromise, saying both bodies had lost their neutrality.
Looking ahead to 2027, Udenta predicted that the general election would be a defining moment for Nigeria’s democracy. He suggested that a potential return of former President Goodluck Jonathan to the presidential race could heighten political tension.
“That panic is that 2027 will be a day of reckoning. That becomes more acute if Jonathan contests that election,” he said.
The former AD chieftain urged opposition parties, particularly the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party, to unite if they hope to challenge the APC. “If PDP and Labour Party do not come together, the APC will destroy this country beyond recognition,” he cautioned.
On governance, Udenta accused the APC of worsening Nigeria’s crises, alleging that the party had collapsed the economy, security, national cohesion, and legitimacy.
“This country cannot continue like this. The people are waiting, the people are watching, the people are suffering. 2027 is not just another election. It is the soul of the country that will be contested,” he said.
Udenta has long been critical of President Bola Tinubu’s second-term ambition. In July, he condemned discussions about Tinubu’s possible 2027 running mate, describing it as a humiliation of Vice President Kashim Shettima. He argued that early endorsements of Tinubu by APC governors while ignoring Shettima’s role point to internal scheming within the party.
