The Edo State Vehicle Recovery Committee has announced the retrieval of 30 government-owned vehicles from officials of the previous administration. The committee, chaired by Kelly Okungbowa, credited whistleblowers for providing crucial information that facilitated the recoveries.
In a statement issued by Fred Itua, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Monday Okpebholo, the committee disclosed that among the recovered vehicles were two Land Cruiser Jeeps, two Toyota Hilux trucks, and other state-owned assets, including one vehicle still containing campaign materials.
“We have recovered two Land Cruiser Jeeps and two Toyota Hilux vehicles from a former high-ranking official of the immediate past government,” Okungbowa said. “Another Hilux vehicle was also recovered, bringing the total number of vehicles retrieved since our operation began to 30.”
The chairman emphasized the importance of public collaboration, encouraging citizens to provide information about unreturned government assets. He assured whistleblowers of recognition and potential rewards for their assistance.
Nationwide Efforts to Retrieve Assets
The committee is prepared to extend its operations nationwide, ensuring that all state-owned vehicles are returned.
Earlier in the week, three additional vehicles were retrieved, including a Hilux van and two Toyota Hiace buses. One bus contained palliatives, including bags of rice intended for distribution to Edo residents.
Okungbowa reaffirmed the committee’s determination to account for all government assets, reiterating their commitment to transparency and accountability in safeguarding public property.
The committee’s operations are set to conclude within two weeks, with more recoveries expected before the deadline.
